In the biological sense, the term adult refers to a human or animal that is a person who has matured. The human world of adult refers to social and legal concepts. As opposed to a "non-adult" or "minor", a legal adult has attained the age of majority, and therefore is regarded as independent, self-sufficient, and responsible. Also known as "majors", they can also be considered to be at the age of adulthood. The age at which a child becomes an adult legally is 18 years old, however the definition of maturity may differ based upon the nation or legal system in place, and also their psychological state.

At the point that a person reaches physical and intellectual maturity it is referred to as adulthood. The age of adulthood typically begins at an age that is 21. Old age is about 60 years old after middle age. As we enter early adulthood, our body has reached its full physical maturity. However, our height and our weight can rise. The physical abilities of our bodies are at their peak in young adulthood. It includes strength of muscles, reflex time, sensitivities, and functioning of the heart.
